Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
